Art&Design

March 1 – May 20, 2018

On 1-15 th of March at Mandarin Maison art -space with the support of Artcult Foundation takes place exhibition "Art & Design".

Is there any borderline between art and design?

The contemporary artist challenges himself. He is a researcher, experimentalist and critic. Art is seeking for new ways in rendering ideas, avant-garde ideas, if compared to the generally accepted tastes.

The designer creates for people. His creations are integral and explicable. The art of design is in a brilliant combination of form, matter and color, new visual moves and spatial solutions.

The artist inspires the designer, the designer brings the new into everyday life.Plenty of such examples exist in the fashion industry, architecture, object and graphic design: Jeff Koons for Louis Vuitton, Piet Mondrian and Sonya Delaunay in the collections of Yves Saint Laurent, Damien Hirst for Lalique.

Le Corbusier, Salvador Dali, Friedrich Hundertwasser, Niki de Saint Phalle have left a bright mark in art, as well as in architecture and design. Suprematist painters painted porcelain, cubo-futurists developed textile ornaments and household designs, the decorative art-deco came to the service of furniture and jewelry manufacturers.

New technologies came out to the stage: digital, 3-D modeling, graphic design became integral tools not only for architects and designers, but also for artists. The works of Takashi Murakami, Marc Quinn, Yayoi Kusama – are just the few bright examples to name.

But are such great architects as Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry, Tadao Ando far from the artists? Historically, the artist was the same artisan, creating paintings and frescoes for walls, sculptures for decorating friezes and tombs. Now something is created for something by the designer, who makes use of the latest technologies, taking into account the trends and wishes of customers. Yet, there often appears a "by-product", way too "revolutionary", impractical and incomprehensible... and here comes an idea to mind – it is indeed the art!

With the project Art & Design, Maison Mandarin opens the gallery Mandarin Maison Art. The exhibition features the works by Ukrainian artists and designers: Braty, Masha Reva, Viktor Sydorenko, Stepan Ryabchenko, Oksana Levchenya-Konstantinovska, Sergey Savchenko, Ruslan Tremba. Curator: Natalia Shpitkovskaya.

The exhibition is open: 10:00-22:00 at Mandarin Maison, 6 Baseyna str. 5-th floor
