An Open Opportunity

ARTСult Foundation is a Partner of the event

May 20 – July 25, 2021

An Open Opportunity exhibition presents the museum model as a view of contemporary art in Ukraine. The logic of the exhibition is built on 6 iconic directions: Odesa conceptualism, Kharkiv photography, Kyiv non-conformism, "new wave", plastic abstraction, or pictorial and graphic experiments of Lviv artists.

Each collection is a separate space where a collector collects symbols, signs, and stories that are important for them. What is always important in collecting is that, apart from the subjective meaning for the collectors themselves, the plurality of these symbols has great potential for social impact.

For the first time, the collector's exhibition covers a time span from the end of the 1950s to the beginning of the decade of this century, up to the 2010s. In addition, the exhibition brings together in one space different artistic movements: works of many participants of this exhibition were selected by the expert committee of the Centre Pompidou, and received as a gift from Ukrainian collectors for inclusion in the permanent collection of the museum - 164 works are now in Paris.

An Open Opportunity exhibition features works by about 50 artists whose works were a continuation of the joint efforts of Ukrainian collectors to promote Ukrainian contemporary art and the culture of collecting as one of the major ways to preserve the cultural heritage of the nation. The gift is not only an original way of museumification of Ukrainian contemporary art but also an act of its recognition in the context of world culture.

For the two months within the frames of the M17 project, not only guided tours but also discussions, lectures and round table discussions on the collecting and collecting-related themes will take place.

The project is a part of the M17 research project "PRO Collections" supported by the Ukrainian Club of Contemporary Art Collectors.
